Blood and Sand takes its name from the movie Blood and Sand, released in 1922. The movie was about the rise and tragic life of a bullfighter. The cocktail is named after this dramatic story.

It gained a permanent place in the cocktail world with its inclusion in The Savoy Cocktail Book published in 1930. The interesting point is that it is one of the rare classic cocktails that use Scotch whisky.

“Life sometimes begins with victory, but the real story is of those who stay until the end”

Sooty and strong, Scotch is balanced by the sweetness of cherry liqueur and the lively acidity of orange juice. Sweet vermouth bridges this trio and brings the flavors together.

The resulting drink is both fruity and characterful. Blood and Sand is considered a classic, not flashy, but respected by those who know the bar culture.
