A classic New Orleans cocktail made with egg whites, fresh lemon and lime, orange blossom water and gin. Long to prepare but unforgettable: frothy, fresh and sophisticated.
The Ramos Gin Fizz was created in New Orleans in 1888 by Henry C. Ramos. At the time, bars in the city were aiming to offer not just drinks, but experiences and shows. Ramos designed this cocktail to create a frothy texture with egg whites and cream in an unorthodox way.
Serving the cocktail was not technically easy. The shaker would need to be shaken for hours; some bars would have more than one bartender lined up to serve the drink, taking turns to shake it. The cocktail is therefore referred to as an "arm workout cocktail" and could only be made perfectly by patient and attentive bartenders.
“Life is sometimes worth the long churning; patience brings a frothy reward”
The character of the Ramos Gin Fizz reflects the energetic, colorful yet sophisticated spirit of New Orleans. Egg whites and cream make the cocktail smooth and frothy, lemon and lime liven it up with their acidity, and orange blossom water leaves a light but unforgettable aroma.
Those who try this drink experience not only a taste, but also the value of time and effort. Each shake requires patience and attention, and the creamy foam that appears in the glass at the end is like a reward. Ramos Gin Fizz is more than a classic drink, it is a legend that touches the history of bar culture.
