The opera cocktail originated as a product of the elegant bar culture in Europe in the early 20th century. Like the opera houses from which it takes its name, this cocktail has a flamboyant yet balanced character. At the time, bars, especially in Paris and London, were the meeting place for artists, aristocrats and intellectuals. The opera cocktail is considered one of the sophisticated drinks that emerged in this cultural environment.

The cocktail is based on gin, but what makes it special is the use of Dubonnet Rouge. Dubonnet is a wine-based aperitif with herbal aromas and flavors, giving the cocktail an elegant depth. The Maraschino liqueur adds light cherry flavors and a subtle sweetness. The combination of these three ingredients results in a very balanced and aromatic drink in the classic cocktail world.

β€œLife is like a stage; it is not the size of the role that matters, but how you play it.”

The opera cocktail has become one of the lesser-known classics over the years, but is being rediscovered by cocktail enthusiasts and bartenders alike. Its elegant and refined structure makes it an ideal drink for quiet evenings, elegant receptions or post-theater chats. Like a good opera, it has aromas that unfold layer by layer after the first sip.
