Black Manhattan
Black Manhattan - A modern interpretation of the classic Manhattan with a darker and more herbal character. A deeper and more complex flavor is achieved by using Amaro instead of Vermouth.
The Black Manhattan is one of the most successful classic interpretations of the modern cocktail world. Created in 2005 by bartender Todd Smith at the Bourbon & Branch bar in New York City. The aim was to give it a deeper, vegetal character while preserving the elegant structure of Manhattan.
Amaro Averna was preferred instead of the sweet vermouth used in the classic Manhattan. This change gave the cocktail a darker, spicier and slightly bitter profile. The result is a drink that feels both familiar and new.
βLife sometimes shows its dark side, but that's where the depth beginsβ
Black Manhattan quickly became a modern classic. Because the drink offered a more complex and adult character while retaining the spirit of Manhattan.
