COCKTAIL RECIPE
Old Pal
Old Pal is a tangy and aromatic classic cocktail that combines rye whiskey, dry vermouth and Campari in equal proportions. Although similar to a Negroni, it stands out with its drier and spicier character. It is especially preferred as an aperitif thanks to its strong yet balanced structure.
The Old Pal cocktail is one of the great classics of early cocktail books, originating in the early 1920s. It first appeared in the famous cocktail writer Harry MacElhone's ABC of Mixing Cocktails, published in 1922. At that time, bars in Paris and London had become one of the centers of cocktail culture, especially thanks to American travelers and artists.
The name of the cocktail, "Old Pal", originated as a reference to William "Sparrow" Robertson, a journalist and writer of the time. Robertson was a figure known for his sharp humor and strong character. The strong but balanced structure of the Old Pal cocktail seems to be designed to match this character.
