COCKTAIL RECIPE
White Russian
A rich fusion of premium vodka, dark coffee liqueur, and velvety heavy cream. A timeless cocktail immortalized by the cult classic film The Big Lebowski.
The White Russian is an elegant evolution of the "Black Russian," originally crafted in 1949 by Belgian bartender Gustave Tops at the Hotel Métropole in Brussels to honor Perle Mesta, the U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg. By the mid-1960s, bartenders began adding a luxurious layer of heavy cream, giving birth to the White Russian name, inspired by vodka’s historic Russian roots and the snowy velvety cream floating on top. While it enjoyed steady popularity for decades, the cocktail ascended to global cult status in 1998 thanks to the Coen Brothers’ iconic movie "The Big Lebowski." Handheld continuously by Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, the drink became the ultimate symbol of nonchalant sophistication and relaxed hedonism. The crisp neutrality of premium vodka, the dark bittersweet intensity of coffee liqueur, and the rich softness of heavy cream merge into a harmonious contrast in a classic rocks glass. Each sip offers a silk-like texture with a coffee kick, transporting you straight to a timeless twilight lounge.
