COCKTAIL RECIPE

Salty Dog

Salty Dog is a refreshing classic cocktail made with vodka or gin and grapefruit juice. The salty rim of the glass balances the citrusy character of the drink and offers a different taste experience with every sip.

The Salty Dog cocktail originated as a variation of the Greyhound cocktail. While the Greyhound consists only of vodka and grapefruit juice, the Salty Dog's difference is the salty rim of the glass. This small touch completely changes the character of the drink and makes the sour aromas of citrus more balanced.

The name of the cocktail comes from maritime culture. The expression "salty dog" is used in English to describe experienced sailors who have worked at sea for a long time. The salty edge detail also refers to this sailor image. For this reason, the cocktail has become very popular, especially in seaside bars and summer vacation destinations.

“In life, sometimes a little touch can change the flavor of everything.”

Salty Dog has a special place among classic cocktails thanks to its simplicity. Prepared with few ingredients but with a balanced character, this drink is especially good for those who like fresh and citrusy cocktails. Nowadays, it is often included in the summer menus of many bars.

Bartender Tips

🧂

The salt rim should be thin - too much salt can throw the drink out of balance.

🍊

Using fresh grapefruit juice makes the flavors of the cocktail much more vibrant.

🧊

Filling the glass completely with ice keeps the drink fresher for longer.
