Rob Roy

The Rob Roy cocktail originated in the bar of the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York in the 1890s. The cocktail takes its name from the theater play "Rob Roy", which was staged at the same time. The play was based on the life of Rob Roy MacGregor, a legendary folk hero of Scotland, and was very popular in New York society at the time.
Inspired by the success of the game, the bartenders created a version of the Manhattan cocktail made with Scotch whisky and called it the Rob Roy. Thus, the drink combines both the strong character of Scotland and the classic cocktail tradition.
