According to the most common narrative, a bartender created the concoction to make the drink look like iced tea at a time when the consumption of alcoholic beverages was prohibited. It was tea-like in color, innocent in appearance but powerful in content.
Over time, it became a staple of university parties and nightlife. The drink is softer than expected; the balance of lemon and sugar hides the harshness of the alcohol. But the effect comes on gradually.
