COCKTAIL RECIPE
Doctor Funk
Donn the Beachcomber's legendary Tiki classic Doctor Funk is a mysterious ocean-breeze union of dark rum, drops of absinthe, fresh lime, and grenadine.
Doctor Funk was created in the early 1930s by Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt, famously known as Donn the Beachcomber, the founding father of Tiki cocktail culture. Named after Dr. Bernhard Funk, a German physician in Samoa, this drink reflects colonial-era adventures in tropical islands and the flawless harmony of local ingredients with western spirits. Traditionally, the smoky character of heavy Jamaican rum is blended with the sharp freshness of lime and the anise-heavy mystical touch of absinthe. The deep, layered flavor it leaves on the palate instantly transports the drinker to the sunny, breezy shores of the Pacific. It remains an essential signature cocktail for midnight conversations and tropical nights.
