COCKTAIL RECIPE
Black Velvet
Black Velvet is a surprisingly balanced and elegant classic cocktail that combines dark stout beer with sparkling wine.
The Black Velvet cocktail originated in 1861 at the famous Brooks's Club in London. The story is linked to an important moment in British history. That year, Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria of England, had died. There was an atmosphere of mourning across the country.
According to legend, the head bartender of the club took an interesting decision to symbolically show this atmosphere of mourning. He added dark stout beer into the champagne that aristocrats often drank at the time. So the champagne, which looked bright and vibrant, took on a dark color.
