What is Stirring?
Stirring is the process of gently mixing ingredients with ice to cool and stabilize them while preparing a cocktail. This technique is generally preferred for alcohol-based, clear and light cocktails. The aim is to cool and dilute the drink in a controlled manner without over-airing or clouding it.
The mixing method preserves the texture of the cocktail and ensures a smoother, silkier drink. For this reason, it is used especially in classic cocktails and when clarity is aesthetically important. As it is a more gentle technique than shaking, it does not disturb the structure of the drink.
How to use it?
A mixing glass is usually used for stirring. First, the cocktail ingredients are added to the mixing glass and then a sufficient amount of ice is added. The bar spoon is leaned against the inside of the glass and stirring is done with slow and controlled movements.
This process usually takes 20-30 seconds and allows the beverage to cool evenly. Once the mixing is complete, the beverage is strained into the serving glass using a strainer. With this method, the drink is served clear and smooth.
