
What is Simple Syrup?
Simple syrup is a basic cocktail ingredient made by mixing equal proportions of sugar and water. It is usually prepared in a 1:1 ratio and is used to add a uniform sweetness to drinks.
Unlike solid sugar, it is in liquid form, so it dissolves easily in cocktails and provides a balanced taste without disturbing the texture of the drink. Therefore, it is especially preferred in cold drinks.
How is it done?
Simple syrup is quite simple to prepare. Equal parts water and sugar are mixed in a bowl and heated until the sugar is completely dissolved. There is no need to boil; it is enough to dissolve the sugar.
After preparation, it can be cooled and stored in a glass bottle. It usually keeps its freshness for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator.
How to use it?
Simple syrup is used as a sweetener, especially in cocktails such as mojitos, daiquiris and margaritas. In recipes, it is usually indicated with measurements such as "15 ml simple syrup".
It is also possible to obtain different flavors by flavoring (vanilla, cinnamon, mint, etc.). This gives cocktails a unique character.
