What is Shaking?
Shaking is the process of vigorously shaking ingredients with ice to mix, cool and gently aerate them. This technique is particularly preferred for cocktails containing fruit juice, milk, egg whites or thick syrups. The aim is to ensure that the ingredients of different densities are fully combined and to give the drink a balanced structure.
During shaking, the ice quickly cools the drink while at the same time diluting it in a controlled manner. This improves both the drinking balance and the texture of the cocktail. Shaking can also give the drink a light foam and a more vibrant appearance.
How to use it?
For shaking, first add the cocktail ingredients into the shaker and then add ice. Once the shaker is closed, hold it firmly with both hands and shake vigorously and rhythmically for about 10-15 seconds.
During shaking, the outer surface of the shaker cools down, indicating that the drink has cooled down sufficiently. Once the process is complete, open the shaker and pour the drink into a serving glass using a strainer. If a smoother result is desired, a double strain can be used.
