What is On the Rocks?
On the Rocks refers to serving the drink directly over ice cubes. This method keeps the drink cold, but also causes it to dilute slightly as the ice melts over time. Especially whiskey, bourbon and some cocktails can be served this way for a smoother and more balanced drink.
On the Rocks service makes the drink both cooler and easier to drink. As the ice melts, the alcohol concentration drops slightly and the flavors can be more pronounced.
How to use it?
In this method, large ice cubes are first added to the serving glass (usually a rocks glass / old fashioned glass). The drink is then poured directly over the ice. Stirring is optional.
For a better quality experience, it is recommended to use large, single pieces of ice, as it melts more slowly and does not dilute the drink too much.
