What is Muddling?
Muddling is one of the cocktail preparation techniques to bring out the flavors of the ingredients.crushing of ingredients such as fruit, herbs, sugar process. This technique is used especially for Mojito, Caipirinha or other cocktails with fresh herbs and fruit.
Muddling releases the natural oils, aromas and juices in the ingredients, which directly affects the flavor and character of the cocktail. It is important not to break down the ingredients too much during the process; the aim is to impart flavor, not to break down the pulp.
How to use it?
To make muddling, place the ingredients in a glass or shaker. The muddler is then held upright and lightly pressed against the ingredients to crush them. For example, mint leaves may taste bitter if crushed too hard; lemon and sugar can be crushed harder to extract the juice and aroma.
After the mashing process is complete, the other ingredients are added and the drink is prepared. With controlled and accurate pressure, the aroma of the ingredients is maximized.
