What is Building?
Building is one of the techniques of cocktail preparation.Preparation directly in the serving glass method. This technique is particularly favored for simple and quick cocktails. The ingredients are usually poured sequentially into a glass with ice and no stirring or shaking is required. This makes for quick service and allows the ingredients to be layered naturally according to their density.
The Building technique is an ideal method, especially for highball cocktails (e.g. Gin & Tonic, Cuba Libre) and simple mixes. It requires minimal equipment and is particularly suitable for quick service in bars. In addition, aesthetic presentations can be achieved thanks to the appearance of the ingredients and the differences in density.
How to use it?
When using the Building method, first put enough ice in the serving glass. The drink ingredients are then poured into the glass in turn. The ingredients can be layered naturally or gently stirred. If the mixture needs to be completely combined, a short stir can be done with a bar spoon.
Once the process is complete, the drink is served directly. It is fast and practical as the technique is simple, requiring no extra shaker or strainer.
