What is Bruised?
Bruising is a technique used in cocktail making whereby fresh herbs and citrus ingredients are lightly crushed to release their flavors. The aim is to bring only the flavors and natural oils of the ingredients into the drink without breaking them down. This technique is generally preferred for cocktails with delicate ingredients such as mint, lemon or lime.
How to use it?
Place the fresh herbs or citrus ingredients in a glass or shaker.
Press the ingredients lightly with a bar muddler, spoon handle or similar equipment.
Focus only on extracting the flavors, without breaking down the ingredients.
Once the bruising is complete, add the rest of the ingredients and prepare the cocktail.
