What is a Pourer?
A pourer is a small piece of bar equipment that is attached to the mouth of a bottle and allows the liquid to be poured in a controlled, smooth and measured manner. It is usually made of metal or plastic and allows the liquid to flow uninterruptedly thanks to the air channel inside. In this way, it offers great convenience in the cocktail preparation process, which requires both speed and precision.
Found in almost every bottle of alcohol in professional bars. It makes measuring easier as it keeps the flow rate constant and prevents overflow, dripping or unnecessary loss during pouring. It is also one of the basic equipment of the free pour (unmeasured but controlled pouring) technique.
How to use it?
To use the Pourer, the equipment is placed directly into the mouth of the bottle and seated firmly. When the bottle is tilted during use, the liquid starts to flow regularly and uninterruptedly thanks to the air channel inside.
Measurement is usually based on pouring time. For example, bartenders who are used to a certain flow rate can calculate how much liquid they pour in how many seconds and measure without using a jigger. After the pouring process is finished, the bottle is returned to the upright position and the flow is stopped.
