What is a Mixing Glass?
Mixing glass is a glass mixing vessel preferred for drinks that use the stir method instead of shaking when preparing cocktails. It is usually made of thick and durable glass, with a wide mouth for easy use with both ice and bar equipment. It is especially used in cocktails that need to be clear and smooth. This method allows the drink to be cooled and diluted slowly without removing too much air, resulting in a more balanced and clean taste.
Mixing glass is usually used together with bar spoon and strainer. It is often preferred in professional bars because it offers aesthetic and control advantages. At the same time, thanks to its glass structure, the color and clarity of the drink can be observed, which is an important advantage in terms of presentation.
How to use it?
When using a mixing glass, first add the ingredients to the glass. Then a sufficient amount of ice is added. With a bar spoon, the drink is stirred slowly and in a controlled manner by leaning it against the inner surface of the glass. This usually takes 20-30 seconds and ensures that the drink cools evenly.
Once the mixing is complete, strain the drink into a serving glass using a strainer. In this process, ice is prevented from passing into the drink and a smooth result is achieved. When used with the right technique, the mixing glass is an ideal piece of equipment, especially for classic cocktails.
