What is a Fine Mesh Strainer?
A fine mesh strainer is a strainer with a densely textured wire structure used to strain a drink much more finely when making cocktails. It usually consists of a metal frame and fine wire mesh. It is mainly used to completely separate fruit pulp, ice crumbs and small particles. For this reason, it is often used in combination with the Hawthorne strainer rather than alone and this technique is called "double strain".
This equipment is particularly important for cocktails where a smooth and clear drink is desired. It is preferred by both professional bars and detailed home users, as it significantly improves the appearance and texture quality.
How to use it?
When using a fine mesh strainer it is often used as a second strainer. First, the drink is poured from the shaker with the Hawthorne strainer while the fine mesh strainer is held over the serving glass. The beverage is thus filtered in two stages.
During this process, the fine wire mesh retains even the smallest particles and ensures that the drink is completely smooth. It is recommended to rinse immediately after use, as fine pores can quickly become clogged.
