What is a French (Parisian) Shaker?
A French shaker, also known as a Parisian shaker, is a two-piece shaker used to prepare cocktails and is positioned somewhere between a Boston shaker and a Cobbler shaker in design. It is usually made entirely of metal and consists of a lower body and an upper lid. It is more elegant and minimalist in appearance, which is why it is preferred especially in aesthetic-oriented bars and premium presentations.
It is two-piece in structure like the Boston shaker, but has a top lid design like the Cobbler shaker. However, it does not have a built-in strainer, so a separate strainer must be used when serving. In terms of performance, it is not as aggressive and fast as the Boston shaker, but it offers a balanced option with its ease of use and stylish design.
How to use it?
When using a French shaker, first add the beverage ingredients to the bottom metal container. Then add ice and close the top lid tightly. After the shaker is completely closed, hold it with both hands and shake for about 10-15 seconds.
After shaking, open the shaker by tapping it gently on its side. Since there is no built-in strainer, the drink is poured into the serving glass with the help of a strainer. It is very practical to use when the correct closing and opening technique is learned.
